Gave me the confidence to deal with this unexpected emergency

I attended at 2-day Outwardly Mobile first aid course last summer as a trainee Cairngorm National Park Ranger.  My first aid skills were called upon when my mother collapsed in the garden sustaining serious knee injuries and hypothermia before being evacuated by helicopter.

I believe that, if I had not done the course, my mother would no longer be with us. As the situation unfolded my mind instinctively went back to the first aid training.  I remained calm and followed exactly what we were taught. I called for help, stabilise her leg, wrapped a duvet around her and sat in the duvet to keep her warm.

I am extremely grateful that the course, and how it was delivered, prepared me unknowingly for an event such as this; I really believe the experience gave me the confidence to deal with this unexpected emergency.
